1. Ashore on Jungle Island

Welcome to your Jungle Island adventure! Below is a short Mad-Libs style story. You may like to fill in the blanks as you go or read through the story first. Use your imagination to visualize the scene. The feelings and images that appear are more than mere fantasy; they are a glimpse at your own island.

Jungle Log 1: (question)?

As I woke up, I realized that I had been using a (noun)as a pillow. No wonder I had slept so (adjective). As I slowly unkinked my arms and legs, I stood up and looked around. Everything was (color). Vines twisted all over the ground, big fronds flopped in my face and above was a canopy of leaves and branches.

I heard (sound), so I pushed my way through in that direction and found a (landmark). From there I was able to find my way to shore, just a (distance) away. The shore was (adjective) and (adjective). I felt so (feeling)! The jungle was too dense to move, but out here I could catch my breath and think: (question you might ask)? (another question you might ask)?

These questions just hovered in the air. How can I find some answers?

My immediate needs were more important. I started to get myself (practical need) and find (security need) and (physical need). Over the next few hours, the sun was warm and bright. I used the time to (activity).

I felt like (a favorite hero). It’s fun to solve meaningful problems. Taking care of my basic needs was a lot of work, but I was able to do it. It was empowering to find a (object) that could (function), and (food) and (food) in the vicinity. My little shelter was (adjective) and (adjective). Pretty soon I was sitting snug and comfortable in almost the same spot where I had awoken so (feeling) just hours earlier.

•  How do the foods you named reflect nourishment you’re seeking—physical, emotional, or creative?

•    Why did you choose that particular hero as your guide or inspiration?

•    What qualities of that hero resonate with your own sense of self right now?

5.  Shelter & Comfort

•    How did you describe your shelter? What does that reveal about the kind of safety or comfort you’re longing for?

•    How did your final feeling differ from the one you began with? What shifted inside you?

Closing Reflection

•    Looking back at your completed Mad Lib, what surprised you most about your choices?

•    Do you sense that your island is reflecting something about your current life terrain?
